SPSS "Invalid Path" Messages

Q:  Why am I getting "invalid path" messages when I try to create graphs using SPSS on the CRADC computing nodes?

A:  That's because SPSS is trying to direct its temporary work files (".tmp" files that the user never sees) to a location for which you don't have write access.  Here's what you do to fix that:

From within SPSS on a CRADC computing node:

  • Go to Edit --> Options --> and select the "general" tab.
  • Type in "T:\<your netid>" (for example "T:\cam6") in the "Temporary Directory" box and press the "OK" button.
  • Answer "yes" when you get the message: "Directory does not exist, Create a new one?"
  • Then proceed with your SPSS work.  You should be able to create graphs with no problem.
