Using the CISER Research Nodes: Ending Sessions
HOW TO PROPERLY END YOUR SESSION ON A CISER RESEARCH NODE:
- Go to "Start --> Log off"
- IMPORTANT!!
- This is the proper way to end your session on an CISER computing node whenever you do not have an active job running*. This conserves system resources, keeps your computing usage bill low, and helps you avoid account lockouts!
- *If you have an active job, then see the instructions below for "disconnecting".
- TO
DISCONNECT:
-
Left-click on the "X" in the right corner of the Terminal Services bar at the top of the screen.
- IMPORTANT!!
- This option should be used only when you have active jobs running.
- When you disconnect (rather than Log Off) your active jobs will continue to run. When you next attempt to connect to that node you will automatically be returned to that session. You should check periodically to see if your programs have completed, and then save your output and go to "Start --> Log off".
- Note that disconnected sessions leave background processes running on the computing node, thereby using unnecessary resources and costing you $$. They may also cause account lockouts related to password changes on other nodes.
- This option should be used only when you have active jobs running.
