Compound Search of Archive Holdings

This search form processes queries in the order in which they are listed.  If you use all three of the search phrase sections, the operation between "Search Phrase #1" and "Search Phrase #2" will be performed to create a subset of files.  This subset will then be evaluated against the phrase you enter for "Search Phrase #3".  Please build your search expression accordingly, as your search results may vary depending on the order of your search terms.  See examples below.

Basic instructions for using this search form:

1. Choose which fields you want to search from the drop down list.  The default is "Title".
2. Type in the words or phrases you want to search in each field.  To use an expression within a search box, use our standard search interface.
   You cannot use operators (AND, OR, NOT) within the search boxes unless it is part of the phrase you want to search. For example, entering the title phrase high school and beyond as search phrase #1 will retrieve the dataset, High School and Beyond.
3. Choose which operator(s) you want to use to create your search expression.  

   • AND:  the previous phrase AND the following phrase must both be in each records you retrieve. The AND operator narrows your search results. 
   • OR:  either the previous phrase OR the following phrase may be in the records you retrieve. The OR operator expands your search results. 
   • NOT:  use when you do NOT want the following phrase to show up in your search results.  The NOT operator narrows your search results.

4. The search can be made case sensitive, but use this option with caution. Every letter used in every search phrase MUST be in the specified case.  
5. Choose whether you want to list studies on the CISER Research Computing System, CDROM, or both.  
6. Click the Submit Query button.
